Common Situations Requiring Etiquette Skills

Techno-Etiquette
In this day of cell phones, call waiting, personal computers and organizers, it is more important than ever to respect the 'space' of others nearby.

Team Sports Etiquette
Formerly for gentleman only and now a game for everyone, golf is often used as a forum for business dealings as well as a showcase for social skills. The same may be said for tennis, handball, softball and other sports, depending upon geography and current popular interests.

Customer Service/Client Services Etiquette
Those who meet, greet and assist customers first are the most important employees in any business as they set the tone for the entire professional relationship. The key to repeat business is making customers feel valued and welcomed.

Office Etiquette
The amount of time spent together in close proximity makes office manners essential to the well being of any employee. People who feel appreciated and respected are more productive, enjoy their jobs more, and miss fewer days of work.

Travel Etiquette
Anyone who travels for business, pleasure or commutes to work via car or mass transportation has stories of nightmares as well as anecdotes of wonderful times on their trips. When traveling through life, a pleasing experience can make up for several bad ones, whether on the giving or receiving end. Road rage and other safety hazards can often be avoided by observing the basic rules of etiquette while being aware of the needs of those around you.

Bridal Etiquette
Some rituals remain as important today as they were centuries ago. Today’s bride and groom have the freedom to personalize their ceremony in many ways, but knowledge of the basic rules can get relationships with in-laws off to a positive start.

Gym Etiquette
Sometimes a solo activity, but with rules so important they are posted in every weight room. Safety is an essential factor.

Funeral Etiquette
Often a most stressful time for all involved on many levels. Knowing what to do can make the difference between regret and lasting appreciation.

Condolences
Those who receive them treasure notes of condolence. The note should be brief, express sympathy and include a point of praise of the deceased, followed by an offer of assistance to the family should they be in need of any.

Flag Etiquette
Since the American flag carries such great symbolic importance, many rules and regulations must be followed to insure proper respect and care.

Sporting Event Spectator Etiquette
Much has been written about the negative effects of poor manners at games, whether professional or amateur school sports. Simple rules expressing respect for all who attend make these events pleasant and memorable.
